Farmer’s Markets are Opening for the Season!

The Triangle is a special place to find locally grown produce. Farmers market are now a great avenue to support your local farmers, find quality ingredients and ease the burden on your wallet. When selecting a farmers’ market there are a few key points to keep in mind. First, if your goal is to support local agriculture, make sure you are supporting a growers/producer only market. This means that the produce you buy was actually grown in your community and wasn’t grown elsewhere and is being resold. This way your dollars go to the farmer and your local community. Secondly, if you are looking to support particular growing conditions such as organic, grass fed, animal welfare approved, etc. make sure your market of choice is a full disclosure market. This means the farmers are vetted to make sure what the practices they are marketing are true.

One market that fits these criteria is the Chatham Mills Farmers’ Market in Pittsboro. A smaller market, Chatham Mills Farmers’ Market is a producer or grower only market. Every product is grown or made with care by our vendors and are grown within 60 miles of Pittsboro.

Chatham Mills Farmers’ Market opens for the season on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 8am to 12pm on the lawn of the historic Chatham Mills in Pittsboro. Fresh produce, pasture raised meats and eggs, baked goods and crafts will be available on the 7th and every Saturday morning through January 2019.

The market has several events planned throughout the season. The Spring Plant Sale is April 14 and will feature garden starts, perennial trees and shrubs, pollinator plants and a great selection of native species. On April 28, join the market for Vendorpalooza as visiting vendors showcase their local and handmade products.  Check out our full schedule of events for the 2018 season!
