The end of summer is fast approaching. With our days growing increasingly shorter and back to school season right around the corner, it’s time for some last minute summer fun. Finding ways to have fun around Chatham County isn’t hard – try one of these exciting options before fall creeps its way in!
Cool Off at a Sprayground
Spraygrounds are a fantastic way to keep kids cool in the dog days of summer. Thankfully, there are two of them in Chatham County from which to choose. The newest is located at Knight Farm Community Park. Featuring touch-activated bollards, the sprayground is ideal for kids 12 and under. The free public park is also home to a zip line, playhouse, multiuse field, and plenty of picnic tables.
If you’re on the western side of the county, head to the Bray Park Aquatic Facility in Siler City. The splash pad there is the perfect accompaniment to pool, bathhouse, and picnic area. It’s open now through Labor Day weekend, so be sure to visit soon!
Go Boating on Jordan Lake
There’s no shortage of summer fun to be had on Jordan Lake. The Jordan Lake Recreational Area is made up of more than 4,500 acres and three public beaches. Whether you visit Seaforth, Ebenezer’s Church, or Parker’s Creek, there are opportunities for rowing, sailing, water-skiing, jet skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing. If you’re really feeling adventurous, rent a pontoon boat – they’re ideal for first-time boaters.
Take Advantage of Dark Skies
Though Chatham County is just a short drive from more urban destinations, it feels a world apart. That’s especially true at night – some of the best stargazing in the state can be done in our own backyard. The Raleigh Astronomy Club does monthly stargazing events at Jordan Lake for this reason. You don’t need a telescope to appreciate gorgeous skies, though. A blanket, some snacks, and someone to cuddle up next to is all you need to enjoy this fun hobby. With the Perseid meteor shower happening in just a few short days, now is the perfect time to explore your curiosity for astronomy.
